In 2004, the great ruin nave of the Abbey of Villers-la-Ville served as a unique and magnificent stage and backdrop for a French version of the rock opera “Jesus Christ Superstar” by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice. Some 30 actor-singers and a live orchestra of 11 musicians performed in front of 900 guests while 83 Martin luminaires provided various lighting effects. Supply was by Blue-Squares of Belgium through Martin’s Belgian representative EVDV. Lighting designer was Christian Stenuit who spread the Martin fixtures around the stage, at the feet of the Abbey’s columns, at the top of the chancel and at the back of the apse. In all, there were 11 MAC 2000 Performance, 20 MAC 2000 Profiles, 14 MAC 2000 Wash, 24 MAC 600 NT washlights and 14 MAC 300 washlights. A faceted 2-meter-diameter disco ball appeared at the back of the stage for the title song Superstar!
