Cargolux Airlines International, one of the world’s biggest cargo airlines based in the Grand-Duchy of Luxembourg, owns a fleet of 10 Boeing 747-400F’s. In May of this year, the company celebrated the christening of the latest 5 aircraft. For the event Codex Event Technologies s.a. of Luxembourg created a special lighting design providing 6 Martin MAC 250, 30 MAC 500 and 14 MAC 600 moving heads, as well as 12 RoboScan 1220 CMYR scanners. Because it was impossible to christen the 5 Boeings all at the same time and place, project managers Eric Chapman and Patrick Risch together with Cargolux decided to christen the nose of a real B747-400F in the middle of a stage. During the ceremony the names of the aircraft (City of Diekirch, City of Differdange, City of Echternach, City of Vianden and Spirit of Schengen) were projected from 2 MAC 500’s. A Jem Heavy fog 6500 was used to simulate clouds around the airplane’s nose. After the ceremony, a light and audiovisual show was put on for the guests. Special 3D animations were rendered by Codex and the light show was pre-programmed with the help of Martin’s ShowDesigner. Tom Weber ran the show from a Martin LightJockey. The event was a great success.
